Mets move into first place

Amazin'.

The Mets are in first. By virtue of the Braves' loss Thursday afternoon to the White Sox, the Mets (41-30) are two percentage points up on Atlanta (42-31) at the top of the NL East, capping an unbelievable turnaround that began on May 22. On May 21, the Mets bottomed out in the NL East basement, a season-worst seven games out of the top spot after losing to Javy Vazquez and the Yankees at Citi.

Heading into Thursday night's game, the Mets have been the best team in baseball for a month. They are 21-7 (.750) in that span.

The last time the Mets were in first was May 1. After they climbed to 14-10, they played some of their worst baseball of the season, losing 13 of their next 19 before starting their current streak.
