Henry won't play for France if asked

PARIS -- New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry says he will never play for France again, even if asked by new coach and former teammate Laurent Blanc.

Henry announced after his country's World Cup debacle in South Africa that he was quitting international soccer after more than 12 years with the national team. He had a French record 51 goals in 123 international appearances.

The 32-year-old Henry told the sports daily L'Equipe in an interview Friday that he would not return even if Blanc asked him to.

"It's finished . . . I will not come back to the French team again," Henry said.

Henry was part of the World Cup squad that went on strike at a team training session, in protest over striker Nicolas Anelka being thrown off the team for insulting coach Raymond Domenech.
