Los Angeles Chargers' J.C. Jackson trending 'positive,' to be game-time decision

NFL, Los Angeles Chargers

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Los Angeles Chargers cornerback J.C. Jackson is trending positive in his recovery from ankle surgery 15 days ago and is "day to day," coach Brandon Staley said Wednesday.

The Chargers open the season against the division-rival Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.

"J.C.'s boot is off, he was running yesterday and he is day-to-day," Staley said.

Jackson underwent surgery Aug. 23 after feeling discomfort in his ankle during practices and was given a timetable of two to four weeks to return. He did not practice Wednesday, according to the injury report, and the team will continue to evaluate him until game day before deciding about his availability, Staley said.

At the time of Jackson's surgery, Staley described the procedure as minor and said there was no structural problem.

"He is on the road to recovery," Staley said. "Things are positive."

Jackson signed a five-year, $82.5 million deal with the Chargers in free agency. He is the NFL interceptions leader (25) since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2018 with the New England Patriots.
