Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett listed as questionable, but coach Pete Carroll optimistic

RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks listed wide receiver Tyler Lockett as questionable for Sunday's NFC West opener against the San Francisco 49ers, but coach Pete Carroll sounded optimistic that the NFL's fourth-leading receiver will play.

Lockett was limited Wednesday, sat Thursday and was listed as a full participant in Friday's light practice. It wasn't due to the knee he twisted late in Seattle's loss to the Minnesota Vikings last week, but rather a hip issue that, according to Carroll, has bothered Lockett for a while.

"We rested him during the week and he had a bunch of treatment and he feels good," Carroll said.

Tight end Gerald Everett is asymptomatic and feeling fine after testing positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, Carroll said, but he had yet to test negative as of Friday afternoon. As a vaccinated player, Everett can come off the reserve/COVID-19 list only with two negative tests at least 24 hours apart, provided he's still asymptomatic.

Carroll is holding out hope that Everett could test negative Saturday and pregame Sunday, allowing him to play against the 49ers. But that would create a logistical challenge, as Everett wouldn't be allowed to fly with the team to the Bay Area on Saturday even if he does test negative before they leave.

The Seahawks will likely have a reinforcement at tight end, as Carroll said he expects Colby Parkinson (foot) to be activated off injured reserve and play Sunday. Seattle also has Will Dissly and Tyler Mabry at tight end.

The Seahawks listed rookie receiver Dee Eskridge as doubtful. Carroll said early in the week that the second-round pick was on track to play after missing the past two games with a concussion. He was cleared Wednesday and had a "really good" practice Thursday, Carroll said, "but we just don't know that it's right to bring him back yet."

Right tackle Brandon Shell (ankle) will miss his second straight game, and No. 2 running back Rashaad Penny (calf) will miss his third straight as both are ruled out. Seattle listed defensive ends Alton Robinson (knee) and Benson Mayowa (neck) as questionable, but Carroll said Robinson has a "real good chance" of playing and that Mayowa "is kind of in the same boat. He's close."
