Bouncing back from Cowboys losses has been a strong point for Dak Prescott

FRISCO, Texas -- Not surprisingly, quarterback Dak Prescott isn’t a joy to be around after a Dallas Cowboys' loss.

“They all suck,” Prescott said. “When you don’t play as well as I expect to play, yeah, it hurts. You’ve got to come out here and you’ve got to use that as motivation, use that as a way to find a way to get better. Find a way to get better, whether it’s 1% or whatever it is, whether it’s on the field or off the field, in my preparation, make sure it doesn’t happen again."

That starts Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons at AT&T Stadium (1 p.m. ET, Fox).

Prescott completed 48.7% of his passes in the 30-16 loss to the Denver Broncos, tied for the second-lowest of his career. He threw two touchdown passes late to make the score more respectable after the Broncos had a 30-0 lead, but he was hardly the quarterback who entered the game with at least three touchdown passes in four straight games and led the NFL in completion percentage.

It was not the return he envisioned after a calf strain kept him out for a game (and for two weeks counting the Cowboys’ bye).

In his past, Prescott has shown he doesn’t let one bad game affect his next outing.

Since acquiring wide receiver Amari Cooper in a trade in 2018, Prescott has thrown 22 touchdown passes to seven interceptions in 13 games after a loss. Eight times he has thrown for more than 300 yards.

Only twice in that timeframe has he failed to throw a touchdown pass after a loss, and the second time was this season in the Week 2 win against the Los Angeles Chargers when he completed 85% of his passes in a 20-17 victory.

“Dak goes through the process the same way each and every week,” offensive coordinator Kellen Moore said. “You watch the whole game. He’s going to watch it on his own, we’re going to come together and watch it as a group, talk about the positives, the things that we can improve on. I think the hope is that there’s consistency within each and every week and you’re not drastically changing the formula just because we lost the game. There’s opportunities to grow in this game certainly. Maybe there’s a few more than we’d like based on the outcome of that game, but we’re going to go through this process each and every week.”

As he reviewed the Broncos loss, Prescott kept coming back to his footwork. He missed a fourth-down throw to Cedrick Wilson on the second drive because he was not set. Some of his downfield throws sailed high.

“I couldn’t necessarily pinpoint it in the game in a sense, but I wasn’t driving my throws,” he said. “None of that was clean.”

This week, Prescott has taken all of the practice snaps, whereas he was limited in last Wednesday’s workout.

“Dak is huge on practice,” Cooper said. “He's a big practice guy. Obviously he really didn't get to practice like he wanted to so he felt like that affected his game. So he's practicing now, so we should be fine."
