Preview ESPN’s New NFL Animations, Graphics Package

"Simply put, we wanted to create a pro football graphics package that would change the design landscape."

When fans tune into ESPN later this week, they will see a brand new look on Monday Night Football and all of the NFL studio shows.

The color palette will be rich and vibrant with splashes of NFL team colors and a signature neon yellow (“venom”) used in contrast to black-on-black and white-on-white backdrops. There will be hand-sculpted show and team logos in various treatments, and premium materials like smoke, liquid chrome and “battlemesh” will be mixed with analog scans. The video above offers a sneak preview of how the team logos and images of the NFL’s biggest stars pop on-screen.

Sunday NFL Countdown (Sept. 8, 10 a.m. ET) and ESPN’s season-opening MNF doubleheader (Sept. 9, 7:10 p.m.) – Houston Texans versus New Orleans Saints followed by Denver Broncos versus Oakland Raiders – will be among the first shows to debut the new look.

Says Mike “Spike” Szykovny, ESPN’s senior director of Motion Graphics: “Simply put, we wanted to create an NFL graphics package that would change the design landscape and highlight the intensity and passion found only in football.”
