The IBF lightweight purse bid scheduled for 12 p.m. ET today for the mandatory fight between Mikey Garcia and No. 1 contender Richard Commey has been canceled and Garcia has vacated his belt, Commey promoter Lou DiBella told ESPN. Garcia had made a deal to fight Commey ahead of a previous purse bid but when his signed contract was not submitted to the organization by the deadline another purse bid was scheduled and now that’s canceled also. Commey will be ordered to face the next rated contender, Russia’s Isa Chaniev. Garcia, who still holds the WBC lightweight belt, is likely headed to a welterweight fight with titlist Errol Spence Jr. instead of another lightweight defense. It’s the second IBF belt Garcia has vacated in recent months. He also gave up its junior welterweight title rather than face mandatory challenger Ivan Baranchyk, who won that vacant belt Saturday.
