Jorginho scores penalty as Chelsea win; Crystal Palace spoil Fulham's top-flight return

Jorginho made his Chelsea debut one to remember by scoring a penalty just before half-time of a 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday.

The midfielder, who joined manager Maurizio Sarri in moving from Napoli in July, scored in the 45th minute to help usher in the new era at Chelsea.

N'Golo Kante opened the scoring in the 20th minute by volleying in a cross from Willian, and after Marcos Alonso was taken down in the penalty area by Christopher Schindler, Jorginho stepped up and coolly netted with goalkeeper Ben Hamer frozen.

Pedro made it three in the 80th minute by chipping in over Hamer after he was fed by Eden Hazard, who came on as a substitute.

Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, signed on Thursday in a record transfer ahead of the deadline, was rarely challenged and did not make his first save until the 20th minute.

Tottenham Hotspur claimed a 2-1 win at Newcastle United behind goals from Jan Vertonghen and Dele Alli.

Vertonghen opened scoring in the eighth minute from a header that the Goal Decision System showing the ball crossed the goal line by 9mm.

Newcastle answered in the 11th minute when Joselu headed a cross from Matt Ritchie past Hugo Lloris, but Serge Aurier sent a long cross into the box that Alli tucked in after breaking past DeAndre Yedlin seven minutes later.

U.S. defender Yedlin limped out of the game with a knee injury in the final minutes, and Newcastle, down to 10 men, could not find an equaliser.

Richarlison scored twice in his first Premier League appearance for 10-man Everton, but a late goal from Raul Jimenez helped Wolverhampton Wanderers salvage a 2-2 draw at the Molineux Stadium.

After scoring when Michael Keane's free kick into the mixer fell to his right foot in the 17th minute, Richarlison scored his second in the 67th minute, using Connor Coady as a screen to beat Rui Patricio.

But with Phil Jagielka sent off in the 40th minute for a hard tackle, Ruben Neves scored from the resulting free kick, and Raul Jimenez slipped past Keane in the 80th minute to finish from a header for the equaliser.

Crystal Palace spoiled the return of London rivals Fulham to the Premier League with a 2-0 victory at Craven Cottage.

Jeff Schlupp scored his first goal since October 2015 in the 41st minute with a sliding left-footed strike past Calum Chambers from the edge of the box after a through ball from Patrick van Aanholt.

Wilfried Zaha then added another in the 79th minute after he was played in by Aaron Wan-Bissaka and scored right-footed around charging goalkeeper Fabri.

Roberto Pereyra bagged his first top-flight brace as Watford claimed three points in their opener with a 2-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Pereyra, who scored five goals in 18 league appearances for Watford last season, volleyed home from a corner by Jose Holebas in the 35th minute before doubling the lead with an unmarked finish in the 54th.

Bournemouth won a Premier League opener for the first time in four tries with a 2-0 victory at newly promoted Cardiff City.

Ryan Fraser scored from the centre of the box in the 24th minute after a feed from Callum Wilson, who looked past a penalty saved by Neil Etheridge in the 31st minute to double the lead in the 91st.
