ESPN Caribbean to Air Exclusive Coverage of the 2018 Laver Cup

ESPN Caribbean will broadcast the second edition of the Laver Cup, an international men’s tennis competition between an elite team of players from Europe against a team of counterparts from the rest of the world live from the United Center in Chicago beginning Friday, September 21 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The entire tournament will also stream live on ESPN Play, ESPN International’s regional broadband service.  ESPN International networks across Latin America, including Brazil, and the Pacific Rim also will present live coverage of the 2018 Laver Cup.

Six of the top 10 ATP men’s players including [2] Roger Federer (SUI), [3] Novak Djokovic (SRB) , [5] Alexander Zverev (GER), [7] Grigor Dimitrov (BUL), [9] Kevin Anderson (RSA) and [10] John Isner (USA) will compete in the event named after Australian tennis legend Rod Laver, the only player with two calendar Grand Slams and 200 career titles. There will be 12 matches played over three days (nine singles and three doubles) with the number of points awarded for victories increasing each day (one point on Friday, two points on Saturday and three points on Sunday). The first team to reach 13 points out of the 24 possible points will win the Laver Cup. Each player on Team Europe and Team World will play at least one singles match during the first two days and at least four of the six players from each squad must play doubles.

Other top players participating in the event include Team World’s [14] Diego Schwartzman (ARG), [17] Jack Sock (USA), [27] Nick Kyrgios (AUS) and [40] Frances Tiafoe (USA). For Team Europe, [11] David Goffin (BEL) and [16] Kyle Edmund (GBR) are scheduled to compete.

The event also features Team Captains John McEnroe (Team World) and Bjorn Borg (Team Europe). McEnroe and Borg, two of tennis’ legendary figures and fierce rivals, played each other 22 times over the course of their careers. Each won 11 matches in head-to-head competition.

Vice captain Patrick McEnroe will join Team World, under the direction of his older brother John McEnroe, while vice captain Thomas Enqvist will support the campaign of Team Europe, captained by Björn Borg.
