Josh McRoberts (toe) sidelined again

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Los Angeles Lakers reserve forward Josh McRoberts missed his second consecutive game on Thursday because of a sprained big toe on his left foot.

"The only thing that's really going to help it is resting it I think, from what I'm hearing," said McRoberts before the Lakers lost, 107-96, to the Portland Trail Blazers. "I want to be out there. It hasn't gotten worse."

McRoberts, who signed a two-year deal with the Lakers during training camp, is averaging 5.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in 23.3 minutes per game on the season. He injured the toe last week in the Lakers' 100-91 loss to the Sacramento Kings when colliding with center DeMarcus Cousins. He aggravated the injury later that game when teammate Pau Gasol inadvertently landed on his foot.

Lakers coach Mike Brown called McRoberts' status "day to day" and would not say whether the 6-foot-10, 240-pound forward will play Friday when the Lakers host the Golden State Warriors.

"There's really no timetable on it. When we all feel good about it, then we'll get him back on the floor," Brown said. "I wouldn't want anything to nag at him the whole year. So, if we can get him right then that would be great."

Troy Murphy, averaging 3.4 points and 6.0 rebounds in 20.4 minutes per game this season, filled in for McRoberts in the rotation. Murphy registered five points, four rebounds and a steal in 21 minutes in the Lakers' 108-99 win over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday, the first game that McRoberts sat out with the toe injury.
