Illinois' Ashante Williams suspended

College Football, Illinois Fighting Illini

Illinois junior linebacker Ashante Williams has been suspended indefinitely following an unspecified violation of team rules.

Fighting Illini coach Ron Zook announced Williams' suspension Saturday, providing no further details.

Williams had been projected as a potential starter as Illinois must fill two starting spots at linebacker. He appeared in all 13 games last season as a defensive back and recorded 19 tackles and one pass breakup.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Williams was suspended for one game in 2009 for undisclosed reasons.
