The Cowboys are in the process of signing veteran cornerback Frank Walker to their 53-man roster.

Walker worked out for the team Tuesday morning.

Walker, who will be entering his ninth season in the league, has played with New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings. Walker was in training camp with the Tennessee Titans this summer but was one of the last cuts.

Walker has eight interceptions in his career and was a teammate of Cowboys coach Jason Garrett in the 2003 season where he started seven games for the Giants.

The Cowboys have problems in the secondary position.

Orlando Scandrick has a high-ankle sprain and could miss three-to-four weeks depending on how he recovers. Also, Mike Jenkins is battling a bruised shoulder and a hyperextended knee. Jenkins and Scandrick were injured in the Week 1 loss at the New York Jets. Jenkins left the game several times due to getting hurt but returned. Scandrick, injured in the first quarter, didn't play in the second half after he was carted to the locker room.

Terence Newman, who missed the Week 1 game with a groin injury, could return to practice on Wednesday. If that happens, it's a needed boost to a secondary that has only two healthy players in Alan Ball and Bryan McCann. Ball and McCann each had a pass breakup in the Cowboys loss.

To make room for Walker, the team has to make a roster move.
