Red Sox call up Doubront

BOSTON -- The Red Sox have recalled left-handed pitcher Felix Doubront from Triple-A Pawtucket and he will work out of the bullpen for Boston.

He made 16 appearances as a starter for the PawSox in 2011 and posted a 2-5 record with a 4.22 ERA. He dealt with a few injuries this season and made two separate trips to the disabled list due to groin and hamstring injuries.

He recently was moved to the bullpen in Pawtucket and made two appearances, working a total of 3 1/3 innings and allowed only one run during that stretch.

“I feel great and my arm is great,” he said. “Everything is fine now. I ready to go and help this team.”

If it hadn’t been for those injuries Doubront might have been recalled earlier this season. Instead the Red Sox relied on Andrew Miller and Kyle Weiland at different times this season.

“It was mentally [tough],” Doubront said. “Things happen and you can’t control that. I can only control working hard and try to be healthy.”

He made his major league debut with the Red Sox in 2010 and posted a 2-2 record with two saves and a 4.32 ERA in 12 games (three starts).
