Whether it ends up being against Mark Hominick or not, UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo will fight in Toronto on April 30.
The UFC officially announced Wednesday Aldo will return to the octagon at UFC 129. It will be the Brazilian's first fight since suffering a compacted vertebrae injury that forced him off the promotion's New Year's Day event in Las Vegas.
A specific opponent has not yet been announced, but that could change as soon as Saturday. Last week, UFC president Dana White confirmed that if Hominick (19-8) defeats George Roop at this weekend's "Fight for the Troops 2" card in Killeen, Texas, he would get the shot at Aldo.
"If Mark Hominick wins this fight, he gets a shot at the title," White said.
A welterweight title fight between Georges St. Pierre and Jake Shields is scheduled to headline the UFC 129 event.
Aldo (18-1) is currently ranked among the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
The 24-year-old claimed the WEC 145-pound title with a TKO win over Mike Brown in Nov. 2009. He has defended it twice since, dominating Urijah Faber in a unanimous decision and knocking out Manny Gamburyan in the second round.
In addition to confirming Aldo's presence, the UFC officially announced four more fights for the April event.
The undefeated Phil Davis (8-0) will take on Matt Hamill (10-2) in a light heavyweight bout. Former WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson (12-2) will make his octagon debut against Mark Bocek (9-3).
Two welterweight bouts -- Ryan Jensen (15-7) vs. Jason MacDonald (24-14) and Brian Foster (15-5) vs. Sean Pierson (11-4) -- were also announced.
