Nnamdi Asomugha's life has not been the same since Jan. 9.

On what was supposed to be a quiet Sunday for Asomugha was anything but. On that day, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Asomugha’s contract with the Oakland Raiders had unexpectedly been voided. He would be an unrestricted free agent and Oakland would not be given the chance to give him the franchise tag.

“It’s been crazy ever since,” Asomugha said.

I had the opportunity to catch up with the Raiders’ star cornerback Wednesday afternoon for a piece that will run later. Asomugha is respectfully keeping his thoughts on free agency mostly to himself these days. Understandably, he doesn’t want to talk too much about it.

He, however, is alone. Everybody he runs into asks him about it.

“There hasn’t been as a single day since the ESPN story came out that I haven’t been asked about it, and I’m not talking about reporters,” Asomugha said. “I’m talking about the person at the grocery store or the person at the airport. If they recognize me, they are asking me about it. It happens every day … I think people see it as an opening. It doesn’t bother me. I just smile and keep walking and enjoy my day.”

Asomugha said it’s not just Oakland fans who bring up his pending free agency. Its fans of every team, asking him to join their favorite team.

“It everybody, everyday,” Asomugha said.

Asomugha shouldn’t expect the free-agency frenzy to slow down any time soon. He’s in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl, so he’ll run into plenty of football fans there. I asked Asomugha if other Pro Bowl players have been asking about what he may be planning to do. He respectively declined to answer the question.

I bet I know the answer to that one. Everyone wants to know what Asomugha is going to do. But we’re just going to have to wait and see.
