An update on the Rams' tight ends

Veteran tight end Billy Bajema's name has shown up on NFL Players Association lists showing potential free agents.

Feedback from @turfshowtimes and @ramsherd led me to follow up on the matter.

Here's the deal: Bajema's contract did have the potential to void after the 2010 season if Bajema met various incentives. Bajema did have a career year, but he did not meet those incentives. As a result, Bajema will remain under contract to the Rams through the 2011 season.

Mike Hoomanawanui projects as the most promising Rams player at the position. He showed as a rookie that he could threaten defenses as a receiver, line up at fullback when needed and handle responsibilities in pass protection. Bad luck with injuries limited him.

Bajema has showed he can provide value to the offense as part of a rotation.
