Source: Beanie Wells to play

Cardinals running back Beanie Wells will play Sunday against Oakland, an NFL source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Wells, who sat out the first two games of the season with a bruised right knee, went through a strenuous but limited workout Wednesday, and he went through much more of practice Thursday.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Wells looked "really good" in practice. The coach said he is "very optimistic" Wells will play.

Wells said he is tremendously improved from last week and is practicing full speed, not even thinking about the injury.

The second-year pro from Ohio State, Arizona's leading rusher last season, was injured against the Washington Redskins in the final preseason game on Sept. 2.
