New unis appear on the way for Mavs

Dominique Jones is at NBA rookie training camp and at some point all the league's rooks get together for a photo shoot. And what do you know, standing at the end of the first row is Jones wearing a what would appear to be a brand-spanking new road uniform.

We've heard of new duds for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers, but this is the first -- I think -- news of new Mavs uniforms.

So, are new uniforms in the offing?

"Maybe," Mavs owner Mark Cuban coyly wrote in an email.

It would appear the rookie class picture beat a Mavs announcement.

Dallas has played in the same white home uniforms and midnight blue road uniforms since putting the Don Carter-era green-white-and-blues in the attic. They've donned a few alternate uniforms, including the forgettable aluminum-foil unis of 2003-04 that were so unpopular that they were trashed after one appearance. The next year the Mavs unveiled the green uniforms with royal-blue trim and an old-school "Mavs" across the chest. Last year, the popular green alternates were changed to royal blue.

And now that royal blue has been transferred to the apparent new road uniforms with midnight blue (or maybe black, but probably midnight blue) trim, while the actual design of the uniforms appears unchanged. "DALLAS" across the chest is changed from white letters with silver tinges to sharper-looking midnight-blue letters with white trim. The number is white with blue trim and centered under "DALLAS" instead of flush left under the "AS".

The Mavs are mum on any changes to the home whites or if a new alternate uniform is in the works.

So, you uniform buffs, stay tuned.
