Adelson is new college football blogger

There are always little moments that shape why we love sports. For me, it was watching Doug Flutie break my 7-year-old heart when his now iconic pass beat my hometown Miami Hurricanes. That moment should have sent me into the depths of college football despair forever. Instead, it reinforced why I love college football. The emotion, the passion, the heartbreak, the unpredictability, the feeling that you live and die with every play.

I can only hope to capture all of that in my role as the new nation blogger at ESPN.com. I’ll provide a national perspective on college football, keep up with the non-AQ teams, pay attention to stats, trends, player production and more. You’ll also find me leading the College Football Live discussions and trading thoughts with you in SportsNation chats.

I spent the last four years helping cover college football at the Orlando Sentinel, the last year as a columnist and college football blogger. What strikes me about 2010 is the potential for a major shake-up.

The title is up for grabs. Perhaps even bigger than Alabama going for a repeat is what could happen in Boise. The Broncos are poised to have the best shot of any non-BCS team to play for a national championship, should they go undefeated. That is no small task, considering the season opener against Virginia Tech on Labor Day.

But those who have clamored for equal rights for all in college football could finally get their first true BCS national champion buster. If Boise State can win it all, the Broncos would be the first non-BCS team to win the title since BYU in 1984.

There are so many more intriguing storylines throughout the country:

Is the Terrelle Pryor we saw in the Rose Bowl going to be who we see all season at Ohio State? Is Rich Rodriguez going to keep his job?

What happens to Lane Kiffin and USC in a wide-open Pac-10? How will the Gators fare without Tim Tebow? Is this the year the “U” reasserts itself into the national title picture? Can Dave Wannstedt deliver a title to Pittsburgh? Will Nebraska win the Big 12 in its final season?

I am buckled in and ready for a wild ride. Hope you will join me right here every day. If you have any question or comments, send them to me here.
