GM search, Day 15

Some things happen quickly for the Jets, such as allowing three touchdowns in 52 seconds -- a bitter memory from Thanksgiving night. Picking a new general manager isn't one of them.

The search enters its third week. Most of the attention is focused on former Bears GM Jerry Angelo, Jets assistant GM Scott Cohen and Steelers director of football and business administration Omar Khan, each of whom is engaged in follow-up communication with the team, but Dolphins assistant GM Brian Gaine remains on the team's radar, according to sources.

Gaine, a former Jets scout with strong ties to the New York area, impressed in his interview last Thursday. He was well-liked during his stay with the Jets, from 1999 to 2004, and there are people in the organization who'd like to see him back.

The Jets haven't commented on the search, but sources say it could wrap up by the end of the week. The team has come under criticism, reportedly scaring away candidates because of a tight salary-cap situation and their 2013 commitment to Rex Ryan.
