Breaking down Seferian-Jenkins' deal

I’m back after a little time off and looking forward to the start of training camp next week.

We hadn’t previously brought you the details of the contract signed by Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round pick Austin Seferian-Jenkins, so let’s do that now. The tight end got a four-year deal worth $5,254,932. Seferian-Jenkins got a signing bonus of $2,141,768. The first two years of the deal are guaranteed.

His first-year base salary will be $420,000 and his cap figure will be $955,442. The 2015 base salary will be $658,861 and the cap figure will be $1,194,303. In 2016, the base rises to $822,721 and the cap figure to $1,433,163. In the final year of the deal, the base salary is $1,061,582 and the cap figure is $1,672,024. Seferian-Jenkins has workout bonuses of $75,000 in each of the last two years of the contract.

While we’re at it, let’s check to see where the Bucs are against the cap as they get ready for training camp. They’re $10,205,773 beneath the cap. That gives them some money to make late signings, and some of that room also could be used if defensive tackle Gerald McCoy signs a contract extension.
