Gerald Wallace misses 2nd straight

NBA, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat

Brooklyn Nets small forward Gerald Wallace missed his second straight game on Wednesday night against the Miami Heat due to a sprained left ankle.

Wallace did not play in Monday night's 107-96 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves after suffering the injury late in the fourth quarter of the team's regular-season opener against the Toronto Raptors on Saturday. X-rays of Wallace's ankle were negative, and he has been listed as day to day.

Wallace, 30, is considered "irreplaceable" by Nets coach Avery Johnson because of his ability to play and guard multiple positions. Had he been healthy, Wallace would've matched up against Heat star LeBron James on the defensive end.

"Right now, he's day to day. I know the target date, but we're gonna keep him listed as day to day," Nets general manager Billy King said Wednesday on ESPN NewYork 98.7 FM.

Veteran Keith Bogans made his second straight start in place of Wallace.

Also on the injury front, reserve small forward Josh Childress missed his third straight game due to a sore left ankle.
