Zack Greinke meets with Los Angeles Dodgers

Our buddy, Mark Saxon, reports on ESPNLosAngeles.com that free-agent starter Zack Greinke met with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday. This should come as no great surprise. The Dodgers, with plenty of money, will certainly look at the top pitcher on the market.

I would expect Casey Close, Greinke's agent, to be pretty popular at the Winter Meetings in Nashville next week. That's a great time to meet face-to-face with interested teams and when it comes to top pitching, the Rangers are interested.

We've talked before about Greinke and what it would mean to the Rangers to get him (can you imagine the 1-2 punch of Greinke and Yu Darvish at the top of the rotation with Matt Harrison as a No. 3 coming off his solid season?). But if it becomes a bidding war, it's difficult to imagine the Dodgers not winning that one with all of their TV money and a willingness to spend. But Greinke has pitched well in Arlington and if he wants to pitch for a winner, Texas has to be high on his list. And if the Dodgers are worried about what a long-term deal to Greinke might mean in a couple of years to re-signing Clayton Kershaw, perhaps the bidding doesn't get out of control.

Stay tuned.
