Ravens get first shot at signing Steve Smith

Wide receiver Steve Smith is scheduled to fly to Baltimore on Thursday night and spend Friday meeting with the Ravens, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

While this doesn't mean the Ravens and Smith are a done deal, it indicates that the Ravens will get the first shot at signing the five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.

The Ravens have been labeled as the favorite to sign Smith ever since it was known that the Carolina Panthers were going to part ways with him. It was evident that the Ravens had a high level of interest in Smith when the team called to inquire about the Panthers' all-time leading receiver less than an hour after he was released Thursday, a source told ESPN.com.

With Smith taking his first visit to Baltimore, it shows that there is mutual interest. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the San Diego Chargers are other teams who have been linked to Smith.

Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said adding a reliable wide receiver was one of the team's top priorities this offseason. The Ravens may have moved one step closer to achieving that goal.
