Vegas installs long odds for Lions in 2014

The Super Bowl has been over for less than 24 hours and already the focus is shifting toward July, the start of training camp and the beginning of the 2014 season.

To that end, before the Lions even sign a single free agent or draft any rookies, they are installed at 40-1 odds to win next season's Super Bowl according to the Las Vegas Hilton -- the same odds given to the New York Giants, Washington Redskins and St. Louis Rams.

The Lions' odds are actually the third-best odds in the NFC North, behind the Green Bay Packers (16-1) and Chicago Bears (30-1).

Detroit started last season 6-3 but finished 7-9, leading to the firing of former coach Jim Schwartz and the hiring of new coach Jim Caldwell.

Seattle and Denver, the two participants in Sunday's Super Bowl, are installed as 5-1 favorites with San Francisco right behind at 6-1.

Odds of Detroit's opponents in 2014:

  • New England: 7-1

  • Green Bay: 16-1

  • New Orleans: 16-1

  • Carolina: 20-1

  • Atlanta: 25-1

  • Chicago: 30-1

  • Arizona: 30-1

  • New York Giants: 40-1

  • Miami: 50-1

  • Tampa Bay: 60-1

  • New York Jets: 60-1

  • Buffalo: 60-1

  • Minnesota: 100-1
