ESPN Deportes’ Commentators in EA’s FIFA 13
Mario Kempes, Fernando Palomo and Ciro Procuna will be the new Spanish voices of the popular video game
Three of ESPN Deportes’ most renowned soccer commentators will be the Spanish-language voices of FIFA 13, the Electronic Arts (EA) latest video game of the FIFA series to be released later this year. This was announced yesterday in a press conference by EA in Mexico.
Fernando Palomo, Mario Kempes and Ciro Procuna were given the opportunity to support EA in their efforts to provide an update to FIFA with innovations of the highest quality that will not only meet, but exceed the demands and critiques of its followers.
Palomo who serves as host of Fuera de Juego and play-by-play commentator for the network expressed his excitement with participating in FIFA 13, in which he expresses the same passion he brings to every game he calls on television. “I tried to record every sentence with the same level of energy and tenacity as an actual soccer match,” said Palomo. “I’m anxious to get home with FIFA 13 and have my children see that their dad is the person calling the game they enjoy so much – that is one of the things that most motivated me, knowing that I’ll be in the console with the young and the young at heart who continue to play.”
World Cup champion, Mario Kempes is also thrilled to be part of the game, providing his analysis alongside Palomo. “It was an honor and a true pleasure to participate in FIFA 13 because it is a game we all love,” said Kempes. “I never pictured it, so when I was invited to join, I was ecstatic; I did it with love and enthusiasm, everything we said was natural and we hope everyone likes it.”
Futbol Picante’s host and soccer expert Procuna will be voice on the field. “I never imagined being invited to partake in FIFA 13, in all honesty, I am happy,” said Procuna. “I hope the fans of this video game are pleased with our work.”
Legendary World Cup champion Mario “El Matador” Kempes joined ESPN January 2004 as soccer analyst for ESPN Deportes (U.S.) and ESPN in Latin America. His main responsibilities include providing analysis for Spanish-language coverage of International soccer. He also serves as co-host for the daily international soccer show, Fuera de Juego.
Kempes played in three FIFA World Cup (Germany 1974, Argentina 1978 and Spain 1982), making a total of 18 appearances. He won the “Golden Boot” in the 1978 World Cup after scoring six goals in the tournament. On the club level, Kempes had a distinguished career in Spain with Valencia in the Spanish League where he won two Spanish Cups, one European Super Cup title, and two European Cup Winners Cups.
Fernando Palomo uses his vast soccer background to bring depth and insight to his work as the lead soccer play-by-play commentator for ESPN Deportes. He also serves as host of Fuera de Juego, the network’s highest-rated international soccer program. Palomo joined ESPN in 2000 as a SportsCenter anchor for ESPN in Latin America. From 2004 to 2006 he served as an anchor for SportsCenter on ESPN Deportes
Ciro Procuna joined ESPN in 2004 as anchor of SportsCenter for ESPN Deportes in the U.S. and ESPN in Mexico. Since joining ESPN his duties have expanded to include serving as co-host of Mexican soccer show Fútbol Picante and providing play-by-play commentary for the network’s telecasts of Mexican First Division soccer.
Considered one of ESPN Deportes and ESPN International’s most versatile reporters, Procuna has covered numerous sporting events, including three FIFA World Cups (France 1998, Korea/Japan 2002, Germany 2006), nineteen Super Bowls, (1992-2010), three Olympic Games (Atlanta 1996, Nagano 1998, Sydney 2000), one Pan American Games (199) and two European Cups (2000, 2008).
