Linkin Park to play X Games LA

Linkin Park will perform a show Friday night at X Games LA to celebrate the launch of X Games MUSIC. James Minchin

Two-time Grammy Award winner Linkin Park will perform at X Games Los Angeles 2012 as part of a new initiative being introduced to the X Games brand in 2013 -- X Games MUSIC. Linkin Park will perform a private show at Club Nokia at LA Live on June 29, performing songs from its upcoming album "Living Things," set for release June 26 and produced by Linkin Park vocalist Mike Shinoda and legendary record producer Rick Rubin.

Select tickets for Linkin Park, plus a special guest, will be made available to the public via giveaways on X Games Facebook and Twitter.

Accompanying the global expansion of the X Games in 2013, which includes six stops in the United States, Europe and South America, X Games MUSIC is being introduced as an additional cultural element to the X Games experience, one that defines the link between action sports subcultures and music. X Games MUSIC will serve as a component of each Global X Games event in 2013, pairing unique action sports-influenced musical acts alongside X Games events in Aspen, Colo.; Tignes, France; Foz do Iguaçu, Brazil; Barcelona, Spain; Munich, Germany; and Los Angeles.

Formed in 1996, Linkin Park has earned two Grammy Awards and sold more than 50 million copies of its albums worldwide. The band, consisting of Mike Shinoda (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chester Bennington (vocals), Joe Hahn (turntables, keyboards, sampling), Dave Farrell (bass guitar), Brad Delson (guitar) and Rob Bourdon (drums), has released five full-length studio albums, including the upcoming "Living Things."

Known in the past for its cathartic take on nu-metal and rap rock, Linkin Park shifts focus in the first single from "Living Things" to a more dance-friendly version of the band's trademark sound. The first single, "Burn It Down," was released in late May and offers an existential take on new beginnings.

In addition to Linkin Park's private show on Friday at X Games Los Angeles, Austin, Texas-based electro funk duo Ghostland Observatory will perform on July 1 at Club Nokia to close out X Games Los Angeles. Tickets for Ghostland Observatory are available via Ticketmaster, and the event starts at 8 p.m.

X Games MUSIC will announce a full schedule of artists for each 2013 Global X Games event in the coming months.
