G2 Esports have signed Team ROCCAT's bottom lane Petter "Hjärnan" Freyschuss and Kim "Wadid" Bae-in for its 2018 roster, sources close to the organization and players told ESPN.

Hjärnan and Wadid's contracts with ROCCAT expired Monday, but the duo were given special permission to discuss joining G2 Esports over a week before the Tuesday opening of the global free agency period. Hjärnan tweeted on Wednesday that the duo will remain together, but did not specify where.

Hjärnan and Wadid are the first two members acquired in G2 Esports' rebuild around Luka "PerkZ" Perković, the longest-standing member on the team. G2 is currently exploring options for its top lane and jungle positions, with interest both in Europe and abroad.

G2 did not renew its contract with top laner Ki "Expect" Dae-han. Its former jungler Kim "Trick" Gang-yun expressed his desire to return home to South Korea and its bottom lane Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen and Alfonso "mithy" Aguirre Rodríguez are fielding offers from North America and Europe, sources said.

G2 Esports' League of Legends roster dissolution comes after the team failed to qualify for the playoffs at the League of Legends World Championship for a second year in a row. The team has taken the European League Championship Series title every split it has competed in since joining the league in Jan. 2016.

G2 Esports did not reply to a request for comment by the time of publication.
