Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is smart to be self-critical - Liverpool boss Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said he welcomed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's self-critical assessment of his display against Swansea City on Boxing Day.

Speaking after Liverpool's 5-0 win at Anfield, Oxlade-Chamberlain said he was "disappointed" with how he played despite scoring Liverpool's fifth goal.

Klopp agreed that the midfielder could have done better in his 90-minute appearance but said he felt he was still adjusting to certain aspects of life at Liverpool after his summer move from Arsenal.

He told the official Liverpool website: "Ox is a smart player. He knew it was not even close to his best possible performance -- but it's no problem, that's football.

"You have to win the game somehow on an average day as well. It was not an average day but it was not brilliant over 90 minutes.

"Ox needs to adapt to the position still, that's no problem. He has a lot of space for improvement. But it's nice to see that he is really hard-working on it.

"He is a really hard-working boy and wants to improve. It's good that he knows he can do better -- now we have to work together on it so he can do better."

Meanwhile, Klopp said a number of Liverpool's youngsters, including Ben Woodburn and Marko Grujic, could go out on loan next month.

However, he stressed that he would only sanction loans if clubs were the right fit for his players.

"We will see," he said. "These boys are all really close -- much closer than you can see when I do the squad.

"We have to decide at one point if it makes sense that they stay. For a lot of them, it makes sense that they stay here because we need them. For a few, maybe it makes a little bit less sense.

"We will see -- nothing is decided so far. We will see which clubs are asking and then we have to make a decision whether it is good for the boy or not and all these things.

"But, really, for most of them there will be no transfer window. They will stay here."
