The Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays have "sincere interest" in Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.

Rumor Central

The Blue Jays have previously been linked to Gordon, with FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman writing last week that Toronto, along with the Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals, have "at least mentioned" the two-time All-Star in trade talks.

Gordon is owed $37.9 million over the three guaranteed years remaining on his current contract. The 29-year-old's five-year, $50 million deal includes a $14 million team option for 2021, which is guaranteed if Gordon reaches 600 plate appearances in 2020 or 1,200 in 2019-20. The Marlins are looking to sell at the deadline and getting rid of Gordon's contract would help the team financially, but they'd likely have to offset some of the money, Heyman writes.

The Blue Jays are in need of a second baseman with Devon Travis (knee) on the 60-day disabled list, while a player like Gordon could be a solid addition to the rebuilding Phillies' lineup.

A Silver Slugger and Gold Glove winner in 2015, Gordon is slashing .290/.337/.352 with 103 hits and 32 stolen bases this season. He served an 80-game suspension for violating MLB's performance-enhancing drug policy in 2016.
