In 1973, Billie Jean King faced Bobby Riggs in the tennis match known as the Battle of the Sexes. Riggs, one of the world's top tennis players in the 1940s, noted at that even as a retired player at the age of 55, he'd beat the top women players. However, his hubris didn't win the game. King, who was the top female player at the time, defeated him.
It was the stuff of movies, and they've finally made one!
