ESPN to Provide Coverage of NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships
ESPN will once again be the home of the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships from Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. Spanning four days (June 7-June 10), ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and ESPN3 will provide exclusive coverage of 42 individual championship events featuring the top NCAA track and field athletes, resulting in the crowning of two team champions. Television coverage will begin with the men’s semifinals on Wednesday, June 7, at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU before moving to ESPN2 at 8:30 p.m. ESPN2 will televise the women’s semifinals on Thursday, June 8, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The remainder of the Championship, which includes the men’s and women’s finals, will air on ESPN on Friday, June 9, at 8:30 p.m., and Saturday, June 10, at 6:30 p.m., respectively.
ESPN3 will also carry four separate live feeds exclusively over the four days, totaling over 40 hours of championship coverage.
Two-time Olympic medalist Dwight Stones will provide play-by-play alongside longtime track and field analyst Larry Rawson, who will be calling his 50th NCAA championship this week, as well as analyst Larra Overton, a former track star at Indiana. Jill Montgomery, a two-time U.S. National Indoor Champion from Kansas State, will be the reporter.
The men’s championship will see SEC champion No. 1 Texas A&M chase their fifth national title, along with No. 2 Florida and No. 4 LSU. Individual competitors to watch for include Christian Coleman (Tennessee), a junior sprinter who continues to set records in both indoor and outdoor track, and KeAndre Bates (Florida), who is ranked No. 1 in the triple jump and No. 2 in the long jump.
In the women’s championship, No. 1 Oregon, No. 2 Arkansas, No. 3 LSU and No. 4 USC are some of the top teams to beat. Oregon seeks to become the first women’s program in NCAA history to win team titles in cross country, indoor track and field as well as outdoor track and field in the same academic year. Among the individual competitors are Lexi Weeks (Arkansas), a pole vaulter who competed in the Rio Olympics last summer, Oregon sprinters Ariana Washington and Dejah Stevens, as well as Keturah Orji (Georgia) and Raven Saunders (Ole Miss), who were named co-national women’s indoor field athletes of the year.
