Maradona gets saint treatment with massive nine-story mural in Naples

It's already well known that Diego Maradona is treated like a saint in the city of Naples. But now, he's receiving his consecration in the form of a mural on the side of a nine-story apartment block in the Teduccio neighbourhood of the Italian city.

The mural depicts the head and shoulders of a modern-day Maradona, his hair greying and cheeks showing a little more depth and colour than during his playing days.

This May marks the 30-year anniversary of when Napoli clinched the first of two Serie A titles during Maradona's playing days with the team, when the Argentina international became a club legend. A motion to make him an honorary citizen of the club is expected to be tabled to coincide with the anniversary, but a previous attempt has already failed.

While Maradona may be regarded as a saint, allegations of tax evasion mean he can hardly be considered a model citizen. Having said that, some may argue this beautifies him even more and this latest mural proves how greatly he is venerated in Naples.
