'Emotional' Jose Mourinho hails EFL Cup final winner Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said he was feeling "emotional" after watching his side lift the EFL Cup with a thrilling 3-2 win over Southampton at Wembley.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice, the decisive goal coming three minutes from the end, when Southampton looked set for extra time after recovering from 2-0 down thanks to a brace from Manolo Gabbiadini.

Mourinho hailed Ibrahimovic, whose strikes took his tally for United to 26, telling Sky Sports: "I think, honestly, he won the game for us.

"He was outstanding in a match where our opponent was better than us for long periods of the game. I think they deserved to go to extra time.

"I am a bit emotional. It is not easy to win titles so many times -- there is pressure I have put myself under throughout my career.

"The cup is for the players. My last cup here, with Chelsea against Tottenham, was emotional too.

"It's special. And if I don't get emotional, then it is time to go home."

Mourinho, who said during his interview that "we should probably be playing extra time now," added that he felt Southampton had shown the extra freshness that their two-week break without a game had given them.

"We have so much to play for, and I could see today the difference in freshness between one team and the other," he added.

"I think that if we had gone to extra time we could have been in trouble. The fuel was in their legs, not in our legs."
