ESPN Re-signs Veteran Commentator Mark Jones in Multi-year Agreement

New Voice of ABC’s NBA Sunday Showcase to Continue Wide-ranging NBA, College Basketball & College Football Assignments

ESPN today announced the re-signing of veteran play-by-play commentator Mark Jones in a multi-year agreement. Jones, a 27-year veteran of ESPN, became the voice of the popular NBA Sunday Showcase series on ABC this season. His NBA role also includes additional high-profile assignments, including the NBA on ESPN, the NBA Playoffs and the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, which is this Friday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. ET, exclusively on ESPN.

Jones will also provide play-by-play for ESPN’s extensive coverage of the NBA’s Summer League, while continuing to be a regular contributor to ESPN’s college football and men’s college basketball telecasts.

Tim Corrigan, ESPN NBA senior coordinating producer:

Mark’s passion for the NBA has come shining through in his new lead role on the NBA Sunday Showcase series and we’re excited for him to continue to call more and more marquee events for us. He’s got a great voice, great command and knows how to bring the best work out of his analysts. This is nothing new to anyone who has followed Mark’s nearly three-decade ESPN career.”

Jones joined ESPN in 1990 and is one of the longest-tenured commentators at the company. He has directly covered the NBA throughout his ESPN career, with assignments spanning from hosting SportsCenter’s NBA Finals coverage to the company’s coverage of the NBA Draft Lottery.  Jones also hosted the former ESPN NBA studio show NBA Today. “Never wish for it more than you work for it.” My dad has told me this ever since we watched the New York Yankees win the World Series in 1996. Living by those words has brought me to ESPN as their Senior Publicist for NBA, MLB, FIBA, and Little League. Working for the World Wide Leader in Sports, it comes naturally that I have a competitive nature. Competing on a Division 1 college rowing team and receiving both my master’s and bachelor’s degrees before turning 22 years old, further illustrates that. Sports are more than entertainment; it’s hopes for something bigger than yesterday.
