ESPN Announces 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Schedule
- Rematch of 2016 National Championship Title Game Featuring North Carolina and Maryland
- Fifteen of the Top 20 Teams To Play on ESPN Networks; Every Matchup Features a Ranked Opponent

- ESPNU To Televise Four Conference Championships: ACC, America East, Ivy League, MAAC
ESPN’s coverage of the 2017 men’s college lacrosse season includes more than 25 televised games, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 7, when No. 11 Navy takes on No. 9 Johns Hopkins (5 p.m. ET, ESPNU). In addition to regular season games, ESPNU will be the home of four conference championships, including the ACC, America East, Ivy League and MAAC, as well as the entire NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship. Every matchup on the slate features a ranked team.
ACC Network Extra will stream nearly 30 men’s lacrosse matchups, and ESPN3 is expected to have more than 50 matchups, featuring the ASUN, BIG EAST, Ivy League, MAAC and Southern conferences. St. John’s will play several games on ESPN3, including matchups against No. 3 Denver and No. 6 Syracuse.
Schedule Highlights
- No. 2 Maryland visits No. 1 North Carolina for a rematch of the 2016 National Championship title game on Saturday, March 25 (11:30 a.m., ESPNU)
- Ivy League matchup between No. 7 Yale and No. 8 Brown, featuring All-American and 2016 Tewaaraton Award winner Dylan Molloy
- Conference Championships: ACC (Apr. 28 & 30), America East (May 6), Ivy League (May 5 & 7) and MAAC (May 7)
- Fifteen of the top 20 teams to face off on ESPN networks, including No. 1 North Carolina, No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 Denver, No. 4 Notre Dame, No. 5 Loyola, No. 6 Syracuse, No. 7 Yale, No. 8 Brown, No. 9 Johns Hopkins, No. 10 Duke, No. 11 Navy, No. 14 Penn State, No. 15 Virginia, No. 16 Villanova and No. 19 Rutgers
This year’s coverage will also include a new player profile segment titled “reLAXin’ with P. Carc.” Analyst and reporter Paul Carcaterra will provide fans with in-depth and interactive interviews with some of the best college lacrosse players in the country. 2017 NCAA Lacrosse Championship
This year marks the 10th consecutive year that ESPN will be providing complete coverage of the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship. Coverage begins with the 2017 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Selection Special on Sunday, May 7 (9 p.m., ESPNU), and continues with each round, culminating on championship weekend from Gillette Stadium in Boston, Mass. (May 27-29).
ESPN Commentators
This year’s coverage will be led by seasoned analysts, who were all standout athletes for their respective schools. Analysts include:
- Quint Kessenich –Two-time winner of the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. Award as the nation’s best goalie when he played for Johns Hopkins; played professionally with the Baltimore Thunder
- Paul Carcaterra – All-American and national champion with the Syracuse Orangemen; played professionally with Major League Lacrosse’s New Jersey Pride and participated in the World Lacrosse Games; recipient of 2016 Doyle Smith Sports Information/Media Award
- Ryan Boyle – Four-time All-American at Princeton, winning the national championship with the Tigers in 2001; played professionally in both the NLL and MLL, and retired in 2014 with the Boston Cannons.
- Matt Ward – Won the Tewaaraton Award for most outstanding player in 2006 after winning a national championship with Virginia; a year later, won Rookie of the Year in the MLL playing for the Washington Bayhawks.
- Ryan Flanagan – Nation’s top defensemen in 2011 while playing at North Carolina; a MLL All-Star, currently with the Long Island Lizards.
- Don Zimmerman – Former legendary head coach spent 23 years with the UMBC men’s lacrosse team, made four consecutive appearances in NCAA lacrosse championship; America East Coach the Year (2006, 2008, 2009); also led Johns Hopkins to three national championships
- Mark Dixon – Helped Johns Hopkins reach the national semifinals in 1992 and 1993; current college lacrosse official
Anish Shroff will now serve as the lead play-by-play commentator. Chris Cotter also joins a notable lineup of play-by-play commentators, which includes Shroff, Mike Corey, Jason Benetti and Booker Corrigan, who will all handle play-by-play duties throughout the season.
The women’s college lacrosse schedule will be released later this week.
