Tom Herman, once a Texas graduate assistant, reminds everyone that hard work pays off

Texas Longhorns football coach Tom Herman may not have coined the phrase "trust the process," but he certainly embodies it.

Before he became a star head coach and signed a five-year deal with the Longhorns in late November, the 41-year-old spent most of his career grinding as an assistant coach at places like Sam Houston State, Rice and Ohio State.

But Herman's journey to the top of the coaching ranks began back at Texas in 1999, when he was a graduate assistant for two seasons under Mack Brown.

On Wednesday, Herman reminded everyone of just how far he had come in the 17 years since then. The Longhorns coach tweeted out a cool side-by-side picture of two business cards -- one from his graduate assistant days and one from his current position -- to remind all the young coaches out there that dreams do come true.

Herman, who went 22-4 in two seasons at the University of Houston, inherits a Texas team that went 5-7 this season.
