Redskins sign long-snapper Rick Lovato, waive Jordan Hill

ASHBURN, Va. -- The Washington Redskins signed long-snapper Rick Lovato, just in case Nick Sundberg remains unable to snap in Sunday night's game versus the Green Bay Packers.

The Redskins waived defensive lineman Jordan Hill, but he can always be re-signed Monday if they no longer need to carry two long-snappers. Sundberg injured his back lifting weights Thursday, but a source said there's still a chance he might be able to snap on Sunday. However, they signed Lovato just in case his back does not improve. Quarterback Colt McCoy is the emergency long-snapper, but the Redskins do not want to enter the game with a good chance of having to use him. With Lovato, the Redskins are covered.

Lovato has snapped in two games, both for Green Bay at the end of last season. The Packers waived him this summer. Lovato snapped collegiately at Old Dominion University and was the first player from that school to play in the NFL.

The Redskins signed Hill on Nov. 8 to provide depth along the defensive front, but he was inactive last week versus Minnesota.
