Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr set a franchise record by throwing for 513 yards, including the game-winning touchdown pass in overtime against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Amazingly, the Raiders did not have one of the 19 previous 500-yard games in AFL or NFL history. The previous single-game record of 427 was set by Cotton Davidson in 1964.
Carr became the third player in NFL history to have 500 passing yards, four touchdown passes and no interceptions in a game, joining Y.A. Tittle for the Giants against the Redskins in 1962 and Ben Roethlisberger for the Steelers against the Colts in 2014.
How he did it
Carr had 411 yards against a standard pass rush, the second most by a quarterback in a game this season (Drew Brees had 430 against the Panthers in Week 6).
He was 6-of-12 for 203 yards and a touchdown on passes traveling at least 15 yards downfield. The six completions match a career high.
The Raiders had 270 yards after the catch, their most in a game in the last 10 seasons. Seth Roberts had 29 on the final play of the game.
Heck of a season
The average NFL Total QBR is up slightly this season from 2015, but Derek Carr’s rise is significant. Carr ranked 31st among 33 qualifying quarterbacks with a 44.4 Total QBR. Through the end of the 1 p.m. games, he’s at 66.8.
The big improvement is in avoiding mistakes on short passes. He has two interceptions on his 224 throws that traveled up to 10 yards downfield (he was interception free and 30-of-38 on such throws on Sunday). He had six interceptions on 382 pass attempts of that length last season.
Through eight games, Carr is on pace for 34 touchdowns, six interceptions and 18 sacks. No quarterback has thrown that many touchdown passes and had that few interceptions and sacks in a single season.

The Raiders are the 46th team under the current playoff format (since 1990) to win five straight road games. Each of the other 45 made the playoffs.

Carr had 513 yards, but had an additional 71 yards negated by penalty. He finished 41 yards shy of Norm Van Brocklin's NFL record for yards in a game (554).
