Editor's note: Tony Grossi covers the Cleveland Browns for ESPN 850 WKNR.

Cleveland Browns v. New York Jets

Sunday, 1 p.m., in FirstEnergy Stadium

Record: 2-5.

Last game: Defeated Baltimore Ravens, 24-16, Oct. 23, in East Rutherford, NJ.

Coach: Todd Bowles, 12-11, second year.

Series record: Browns lead, 12-10 (counting post-season).

Last meeting: Jets won, 31-10, Sept. 13, 2015, in East Rutherford, NJ.

League rankings: Offense is 23rd overall (20th rushing, 22nd passing), defense is 16th overall (second rushing, 27th passing) and turnover differential is minus-10.

Strengths

1. Defending the run: After yielding a franchise-low six rushing yards to the Ravens – that’s six yards in the entire game! – the Jets lowered their average to 74.1 rushing yards per game, second-best in the NFL. (Green Bay is No. 1 at 71.8.)

2. Fitz magic: Back in the driver’s seat after Geno Smith tore an ACL while replacing him, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick finds the Browns a friendly foe. Fitzpatrick is 4-1 lifetime v. the Browns, winning games with the Bengals, Bills and Jets. In the four wins, he has seven touchdowns v. one interception.

3. Matt Forte: At 30 years old and in his ninth NFL campaign, the ex-Bears running back is still capable of a game like he turned in against the Ravens: 154 total yards on 34 touches and two touchdowns.

Weaknesses

1. Turnovers: Their 17 giveaways in seven games lead the NFL. Fitzpatrick is the biggest culprit here. His 11 league-high interceptions are why he lost the starting job to Smith (only to regain it through Smith’s knee injury). Fitzpatrick also is 32nd among NFL starting quarterbacks in completion percentage and 32nd in passer rating.

2. Takeaways: They were last in the NFL in defensive takeaways until they exploded for three against the Ravens, bringing them to a season total of seven. That total includes four interceptions. At the same time, the defensive secondary has allowed nine completions of 40 yards or more.

3. Second half: Outscoring the Ravens, 10-0, after intermission was an aberration. The Jets generally fall asleep after halftime. They have been outscored, 82-40, in the second half.

Players to watch

1. Receiver Brandon Marshall: Now 32, the 6-4, 229-pound pass catcher has had 100-catch seasons with the Dolphins, Bears and Jets. Since entering the NFL in 2006, he leads the league with 912 receptions for 11,745 yards, and is tied for second with 81 receiving touchdowns.

2. Defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson: He should be coming into his own at the age of 27, but the 6-4, 315-pound interior defensive lineman hasn’t posted the big numbers commensurate with his 5-year, $86 million contract ($54 million guaranteed).

3. Cornerback Darrelle Revis: The 31-year-old former “shutdown” cornerback is playing like an old man. He has no interceptions and is credited with one pass defensed. He makes $17 million in the second year of a five-year $70 million contract with $39 million guaranteed.

Small world: Bowles was Browns secondary coach from 2001 to 2004 … Assistant head coach/inside linebackers coach Mike Caldwell was a Browns third-round pick in 1993 and played through 1995 … Defensive backs assistant coach Daylon McCutcheon was a Browns third-round pick in 1999 and played through 2005 ... Special teams coordinator Brant Boyer played for the Browns from 2001-03 and spent time with the Browns as a training camp intern in 2009 … Defensive line coach Pepper Johnson played linebacker with the Browns from 1993 to 1995 … Offensive line coach Steve Marshall spent two seasons (2007-08) in the same role with the Browns … Cornerback Buster Skrine was a Browns fifth-round draft pick in 2011 and played through 2014.
