Carmelo Anthony wants to see Cavs get a deal done with J.R. Smith: Carmelo Anthony will see his old friend LeBron James when the Knicks open the regular season in Cleveland on Oct. 25, but another Carmelo pal could be missing. J.R. Smith, who helped the Cavs win the NBA title last June, remains unsigned. Smith and the Cavs have reached an impasse over the length of a proposed deal. Last year, Smith gambled that he would have a big season by signing a two-year deal with a one-year opt out at approximately $5 million. -- New York Daily News
