          The baseball world was stunned by the tragic death of Miami Marlins All-Star pitcher Jose Fernandez in a boating accident on Sunday at the age of 24.

          As news of his untimely passing spread, many throughout baseball expressed their condolences on social media.

          I'm still waiting to wake up from this nightmare. I lost my brother today and can't quite comprehend it. The shock is overwhelming. What he meant to me , our team, the city of Miami, Cuba & everyone else in the world that his enthusiasm/heart has touched can never be replaced. I can't fathom what his family is going through because We, as his extended Family are a wreck. I gave him the nickname Niño because he was just a young boy Amongst men , yet those men could barely compete with him . He had his own level, one that was changing the game. EXTRAORDINARY, as a person before the player. Yet still just a kid, who's joy lit up the stadium more than lights could. A kid whose time came too soon. One that I will miss & never forget. Rest In Peace Niño, Jose Fernandez 🙏🏽

          RIP my brother... I am absolutely heartbroken, I don't think I ever saw you.. in the years we trained together or played together.. without that smile, I will forever miss the days we would convince Orlando that it was too cold outside to train for baseball so we would go play soccer and then chop down trees and race to see who could get their tree down first, the days were there we no cameras, money, fame and we would work our ass off for hours a day while talking about what it would be like IF one day, just MAYBE we both made it to the @mlb and what it could be like.... I will forever miss beating you at ping pong in your moms garage and the way you lived life and how you loved those important to you.... the memories will never fade and one day I will see you again, I truly believe that, then we can talk all about everything we didn't get the chance to. #RIPJose
