Seven-year-old gets 'awesome' ride to Packers training camp practice

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Players have been riding kids' bikes from Lambeau Field to Green Bay Packers' training camp practices since Vince Lombardi was the coach.

But they’ve never ridden one quite like Mason Crosby did Tuesday, when training camp opened.

Crosby hopped on an adaptive bike and rode alongside George Highshaw, a 7-year-old from Milwaukee who was born with spina bifida.

“Am I [pedaling] with my hands?” Crosby asked George.

And then George took the lead and pedaled away toward the practice field.

“That is awesome,” Crosby said.

Perhaps the best part was George got to keep the Packers-themed adaptive bike when the ride was over.

Before the ride, George said he was hoping he would get to ride with his favorite player, quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

“But it doesn’t matter who I ride with,” George said with a smile. “It’s awesome.”

The ride was part of a ceremony for the "DreamDrive" initiative. Sponsored by American Family Insurance and in conjunction with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Green Bay, the DreamDrive allows kids to ride themed bikes and experience what Packers president Mark Murphy called “one of the greatest traditions in the NFL.”

“Just to see the kids line up here this morning, you definitely know training camp is here,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said shortly after meeting George.
