College coach, son accused of attacking referee after game

WAUKESHA, Wis. -- A Wisconsin university says its basketball coach has resigned after he was accused of attacking a referee.

The University of Wisconsin-Rock County says Jamal Mosley resigned Jan. 23, following a Jan. 3 incident in which he and his son, J'shon, were accused of beating the referee after a loss to UW-Waukesha.

The referee, Patrick Anderson, suffered abrasions and cuts around one of his eyes.

Mosley, 41, and his 20-year-old son are charged with battery and disorderly conduct.

They're accused of tracking down the referee after the game and beating him as he fell to the ground. Investigators say witnesses stopped the attack and called police.

The Journal Sentinel reports the coach told police the referee had disrespected him during the game by calling him "boy" and giving him two technical fouls. He says the referee threw the first punch.

The Mosleys live in Madison. They're due in court Feb. 19.
