Claressa Shields wants to be the best woman fighter to ever walk the earth

Claressa Shields has an Olympic gold medal. But she's definitely not finished yet.

With Rio just around the corner, Shields talked with The Mary Sue to discuss her future and the documentary "T-Rex," which chronicles her journey to gold in 2012.

On her motivations to keep boxing, Shields was candid. "The goal is to go down in history as the best woman fighter to ever live," Shields said. "That's my goal. So even with everything that I've accomplished, it's still like there's so much more that needs to be done."

Shields is attempting to become the first American boxer -- man or woman -- to win two consecutive Olympic gold medals. More than her personal motivations, however, Shields strives to change how women are treated in boxing.

"I still haven't fought on HBO, I still haven't fought on Showtime," Shields said. "All these things that I want to do. And I want to bring the attention to women's boxing that we deserve."
