ESPN’s SportsCenter Special with the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Famer Debuts July 21

It is now an annual tradition for the NFL Draft’s top quarterback prospects to visit Jon Gruden’s QB Camp. This summer, ESPN’s Super Bowl-winning coach welcomes his first Pro Football Hall of Famer as Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre participates in his own one-on-one film session.

SportsCenter Special: Gruden’s QB Camp – Brett Favre will debut on Thursday, July 21 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. The one-hour program will highlight key moments and milestones from Favre’s 20-year NFL career just weeks before he is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio as a member of the enshrinement class of 2016.

Favre visited Gruden’s office – affectionately dubbed the Fired Football Coaches of America (FFCA) – in Tampa this week to tape the special. Together, they discussed Favre’s ‘ironman streak’, arm strength and toughness, his reputation as a gunslinger, and what made him one of the most compelling figures in NFL history, especially when it came to playing on Monday Night Football.

One of Favre’s favorite wide receivers, former Packers teammate Antonio Freeman, also made a surprise appearance.

Gruden and Favre have known each other since the ESPN analyst was an offensive assistant (1992) and wide receivers coach (1993-94) for the Packers. Gruden’s first season with Green Bay was the same year Favre joined the team and became the starting quarterback. Gruden also coached against Favre and even called a couple of his final games on Monday Night Football.

“Brett Favre epitomizes what a Hall of Fame football player is,” said Gruden. “He has all the stats, but what I like most is that he made everyone around him better. He has an enthusiasm for the game and this charismatic vibe that brings the team together. He can still sling it and he still has a photographic memory when it comes to the playbook and the personnel he played against. The only thing that disappoints me is that there aren’t many players in the league like him anymore.”

In addition to the SportsCenter Special with Favre, ESPN will carry the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony for the 22nd consecutive year on Aug. 6, as well as the Hall of Fame Game for the first time – Packers vs. Indianapolis Colts on Aug. 7.
