Super Bowl Champion Quarterback Joins Sunday NFL Countdown
Super Bowl champion quarterback Trent Dilfer has reached a new multi-year extension to remain with ESPN. The 14-year NFL veteran, who joined the company in 2008, will expand his analyst role to include Sunday NFL Countdown.
Dilfer currently travels to the site of each week’s Monday Night Football game for ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown pregame show and postgame SportsCenter. He will continue this role and expand his responsibilities to include ESPN’s signature Sunday NFL Countdown pregame, beginning this fall.
Dilfer will also be part of ESPN’s annual Super Bowl coverage and contribute to ESPN Radio and other platforms.
“Trent’s analysis and his passion for football consistently elevate the quality of our NFL coverage and we’re excited to add him to Sunday NFL Countdown,” said Seth Markman, ESPN senior coordinating producer, NFL studio shows. “As a veteran broadcaster, Trent will also make our analyst team better by sharing his expertise with some of our newcomers, just as he did with teammates as a successful NFL player.”
Dilfer added: “I am thrilled to continue my broadcast career at ESPN. One of the major factors that led to my decision to re-sign was the opportunity to work with Chris Berman on Sunday Countdown. Boom has been a great friend and mentor to me the past eight years and I look forward to working with him and a super-talented team on Sundays, as well as continuing to be on-location for coverage of each week’s Monday Night Football game.”
Dilfer, who helped lead the Baltimore Ravens to a championship in Super Bowl XXXV, played for five teams – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1994-99), Ravens (2000), Seattle Seahawks (2001-04), Cleveland Browns (2005) and San Francisco 49ers (2006-07) – during his 14-year career. The former No. 6 overall pick in the 1994 NFL Draft, Dilfer threw for 20,518 career yards. His best individual season was in 1997 for the Bucs when he threw for 2,555 yards and a team-record 21 touchdowns and was named to the Pro Bowl.
