It's been a long time since "A League Of Their Own" graced the big screen or made its way to your television via Blockbuster rental -- almost 24 years to be exact. The film that taught us there's no crying in baseball is just as powerful now as it was in 1992.
That's why espnW's Sarah Spain and Kate Fagan were so pumped about the opportunity to attend the second "A League Of Their Own" reunion game at the Bentonville Film Festival in Arkansas, last weekend. Oh, and to hang out with the festival's co-founder Geena Davis a.k.a the iconic Dottie Hinson:
Not only is Davis the co-founder of the fest -- which exists with a goal of championing women and diverse voices in media -- but her non-profit, the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, is also a research-based organization working to engage, educate and influence the need for gender balance by reducing stereotyping and creating a diverse and inclusive range of female characters.
Yeah, Davis is a boss in real life just like her character was in the movie.
The event was attended by one of the original Rockford Peaches, Gina Casey, who threw out the first pitch. In addition, cast members Megan Cavanaugh (Marla Hooch), Ann Cusack (Shirley Baker), Anne Ramsey (Helen Haley), Tracy Reiner (Betty Spaghetti), Freddie Simpson (Ellen Sue Gotlander) and Patti Pelton (Marbleann Wilkenson) were all present.
According to Spain's Instagram, there was also an impromptu song break. Hey, whatever gets the people going.
Where's Tom Hanks when you need him?
