ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Charles Woodson decided last month to return to the Oakland Raiders for one more season, and he said Thursday he didn't want to go anywhere else this time around.
"Oakland, to me, I'm just happy that I had a second chance to go back there and play in the silver and black," Woodson told ESPN.com after a wine tasting for TwentyFour Wines at Plum Market in Ann Arbor, Michigan. "Really, man, I'm just hoping to, it's been a long time since that team has tasted any sort of success, really.
"For me, man, it would be great if for this next year, man, we got into the playoffs and hopefully make some noise when we get in there. So I really want to be a part of that so I'm hoping we can do that."
Woodson signed a one-year deal worth $3.2 million -- with a $4.2 million cap hit, according to ESPN Stats & Information -- on Jan. 26. The 38-year-old was chosen as the No. 4 overall pick of the 1998 draft by Oakland, where he initially played for eight seasons, including three playoff appearances and an appearance in Super Bowl XXXVII. The Raiders haven't been to the playoffs since that Super Bowl.
Woodson left for Green Bay before the 2006 season, and he played there for seven years and won a Super Bowl.
The 1997 Heisman Trophy winner left Green Bay following the 2012 season and expressed interest in heading to multiple teams, including the Raiders, where he ended up. One of the teams he had interest in going to was the Detroit Lions, not far from where he played college football at Michigan.
Woodson said Thursday night his agent was talking with the Lions early in the process two years ago, but that the franchise did not reciprocate that interest.
"I was kind of throwing some lines out there to see where the interest was," Woodson said. "Most teams, coming out of Green Bay, everybody thought I was pretty much done. Washed up. Couldn't run anymore. I heard all of the adjectives to describe me.
"They were one of those teams that probably thought that."
In 2013, the Lions opted to sign safety Glover Quin, who was a Pro Bowler this season, and then signed safety James Ihedigbo last offseason.
