The Film Don't Lie: Detroit Lions

A weekly look at what the Detroit Lions must fix:

While a lot of focus will be -- and rightfully so -- on the Lions' offense after two games without a touchdown heading into a must-win contest against rival Chicago, there is another area that needs correcting.

One of the most notable changes with Detroit's defense has been not only the lack of quarterback sacks the past two weeks -- zero -- but the lack of pressure placed on Drew Stanton and Tom Brady. After pressuring quarterbacks at a rate of at least 28.9 percent for six straight weeks, the Lions dropped to 18.8 percent pressure against Arizona and then 9.4 percent pressure against New England. It shouldn't be surprising that because of that, the Lions gave up two of their three highest QBR ratings of the season (70.5 to Stanton and 86.2 to Brady) with the lack of pressure involved.

So how does Detroit stop its two-game skid? Defensively, it'll help by making Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler uncomfortable. Cutler is atrocious this season when he has been pressured -- completing just 55 percent of his passes (33 of 60) for 419 yards, four touchdowns and four interceptions. His QBR is even worse, at a paltry 5.5, including a rating of 2.0 or worse the past three weeks. His under pressure QBR is 14th in the league.
